Cart and inventory reservations

Understand the authenticated cart, exclusive 30-minute hold, removal, expiry, and availability conflicts.

Last reviewed:

Reserve one exact piece

A verified, signed-in customer can choose Reserve for 30 minutes on an available listing. Adding the piece to the cart atomically creates one exclusive reservation for that customer.

  • Every listing represents one physical collectible with quantity one.
  • If two customers try at the same time, only one reservation succeeds.
  • The other customer sees that the piece is no longer available; no cart item or order is created for that attempt.

The 30-minute hold

The reservation begins when the server commits it and expires 30 minutes later. The cart displays the server-provided expiry; refreshing, signing in again, or opening another device does not extend the hold.

Cart continuity

The same authenticated customer can see the active cart after signing out and back in or moving to another device, but the original expiry does not change.

Remove or let it expire

Removing an active cart item releases that exact reservation. When the hold expires, the piece returns to availability unless another inventory state already owns it. An expired reservation cannot release a newer customer's hold.

A reservation is not an order

The cart shows current item prices for reference. It does not create an accepted price, calculate tax or shipping, accept terms, create an order, start checkout, collect payment, or create a layaway agreement.
