A 20 Centavos local banknote of El Banco Español de la Isla de Cuba, dated Habana, 15 February 1897, with series I and serial 0501748. The black obverse has ornate framing and a central crowned heraldic emblem with a globe and anchor; the gray reverse presents a rural scene with an ox-drawn cart and workers. The PMG label identifies Pick 53, displays code Y02, attributes printing to ABNC, and assigns Choice Uncirculated 63 EPQ with the notation “As Made Wrinkles.” Numista places the issue in Cuba’s pre-Republic currency period under Alfonso XIII, records the Banco Español de la Isla de Cuba series, and gives an 85 × 42 mm paper format. This note is consecutive to serial I 0501747 in the same photographed batch.

Condition

The PMG holder assigns Choice Uncirculated 63 EPQ and notes “As Made Wrinkles,” indicating production-related wrinkles. No tears, holes, or prominent stains are apparent in the photographs. Direct inspection of the paper, edges, and surface is limited by the holder and reflections.

Authenticity basis

Cataloged from the visible PMG label and the photographic agreement of the issuing bank, 1897 date, denomination, series I, serial 0501748, designs, ABNC imprint, and Pick 53 holder attribution with the Numista type entry. Numista labels the issued variety Pick 53a, while PMG displays Pick 53 and code Y02; the exact suffix was not inferred.
